TROPE · WP-XL

dub-con

Dubious consent — the gray zone the trope is named for. Dub-con covers scenarios where consent is present but complicated: coercion, power imbalance, intoxication, omegaverse heat cycles, or a yes given under pressure the FMC can not fully weigh. It is a fiction device, not a how-to, and responsible dark-romance authors flag it in the content warnings up front so the reader chooses the frame. The appeal is the fantasy of surrender inside a controlled space the reader picked on purpose. It sits at the heart of the darkest corner of the genre and pairs with stalker, mafia, and omegaverse. If the CW list scares you, believe it.
