Shifter romance
Half the hero is an animal, and the animal already decided. Shifter romance gives the MMC a second form, usually wolf, bear, or dragon, and with it a pack, a hierarchy, and an instinct that recognizes a mate before the man does. That is why the trope leans so hard on fated mates, possessiveness, and instalove: the biology does the choosing and the story is about the humans catching up. It sits at the paranormal end of the shelf next to omegaverse and monster romance, and it runs reliably hot.
