The review

Feyre survived Under the Mountain, but she did not come back whole. Back in the Spring Court, the life she fought for starts to feel like a cage, and the bargain she made with Rhysand, High Lord of the Night Court, comes due: one week every month at his side. A Court of Mist and Fury is the book that turned ACOTAR from a fairy-tale retelling into a phenomenon, and it is the one most fans call their favorite.

This is a book about recovery. Maas spends real time on Feyre's trauma, her nightmares and the slow realization that the people who love her can still be bad for her. That emotional arc is why the romance lands. Rhysand is not a rescuer; he is someone who keeps handing her back her own choices.

The Night Court is the other reason people reread. Velaris, the city of starlight, and the Inner Circle, Cassian, Azriel, Mor and Amren, give the series its found family, and every reader has a favorite. The banter is sharp, the slow burn is excruciating, and the payoff is one of the most famous in the genre.

The heat: four peppers. Once the door opens, the scenes are explicit, lush and frequent in the back half, a big step up from book one. The mating bond is the fated-mates engine of the series.

Know before you start: you need to read A Court of Thorns and Roses first, and the sequel deliberately rewrites how you see book one. It ends with the couple together but separated by a dangerous plan, so it is happy for now and the war is just starting. If you only loved the Rhysand scenes in book one, this is your reward.

Read it if you want the definitive slow-burn fated-mates romantasy that every book since has borrowed from. Skip it if you were firmly team Spring Court; this book will not be kind to your ship.
